Altar Of Burnt Sacrifices
When we take a look at the first mention of the altar of burnt offerings or sacrifices in Exodus 20:21-23, it is apparent that this altar is different from the altar presented in Exodus 27. All of the scriptures shown to you will be excerpts from various chapters in the Aramaic Targum of Pseudo-Jonathan.
Then called He, and said, House of Israel, My people, Thou shalt have no other God beside Me. You shall not make to yourselves image or figure, or any similitude of what is in the heavens above, or on the earth beneath, or in the waters under the earth.
Exodus 20:3-4 (TPJ)
You shall not bow down to them, or worship before them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God and an avenger, punishing with vengeance, recording the guilt of wicked fathers upon rebellious children unto the third and unto the fourth generation of them who hate Me; but keeping mercy and goodness for thousands of generations of the righteous who love Me, and who keep My commandments and My laws.
Exodus 20:5 (TPJ)
As you can see, unlike other versions of Exodus; in the Targum of Pseudo-Jonathan, these verses are treated as separate commandments. He first tells you DO NOT make images & idols, then he tells you NOT to bow down them. Again, π€π€π€ π€ reiterates this later on in the chapter (Exodus 20) in verse 20.
My people, you shall not make, that you may worship, the likeness of the sun or the moon or the stars, or the planets, or the angels who minister before Me; idols of silver, nor idols of gold, ye shall not make to you.
Exodus 20:20 (TPJ)
What does this have to do with the altar of burnt sacrifices? In Exodus 27 it describes a different altar of burnt offerings that contradicts the one mentioned in Exodus 20:21-23. Not only is the altar in Exodus 27 built with carved wood rather than of rocks and mud (earth, dirt), but it also adds horns of gold on the four corners of the altar. The horns obviously are probably carved in a way that resembles an animals horns: bulls, rams, goats etc. With the knowledge we know now about not carving anything of likeness in the heavens above or in the earth, it’s safe to say that Exodus 27 is void.
Cherubim On The Ark Of The Covenant
With the understanding from the former; carving golden cherubim and placing them on the ark of the covenant (Exodus 20:18-22) is also void. Apart from that, it’s known to be a pagan custom. Here is a TikTok video I made below explaining this.
Altar Of Incense
The altar of incense is also a device that is to be constructed with horns just like the altar of burnt sacrifices. This appears in Exodus 30:1-10. Again, the horns on both of these devices are void and not consistent with scripture.
