This title is to a 5 minute and 39 second video that I’ve recently watched on YouTube that I found very interesting (Click here for video or view the YouTube video down below) where a Muslim man calls in to the station to ask a great question.
Rabbi Tovia gives a great response: “Abraham kept all of my commandments…” and goes on explaining that you can find the passage in Genesis 26:5.
This is very true, which leads me to believe if the π€π€ π€π€π€π€π€ “Au-ree-ee-ta” meaning Law in Aramaic wasn’t written down yet then it must have been orally taught for all we know. π€π€π€ “Mih-sheh” (Moses) is attributed to being the first prophet of π€π€π€ π€ (YHUEH) to write down the π€π€ π€π€π€π€π€ on tablets of stone to give to the congregation of π€π€π€π€π€ YSHRAL “eesh-ral” (Israel) and he wasn’t born yet so it must have been the case.
What’s even more interesting is when you read The Aramaic Targum of Pseudo-Jonathan (which you can find here on the Sefaria.org site by typing: Targum Jonathan in the search bar then type in whatever book you are looking for) you will find that π€π€ π€π€π€π€π€ (Law) even stretches back to Kain & Habel!
In the Targum of Pseudo-Jonathan on Genesis 4:3-4 we read:
π€ π€π€ π€ π€π€π€ π€ π€π€ π€π€π€ π€ π€π€π€π€π€π€ π€π€π€π€π€ π€ π€π€π€π€π€ π€π€π€ π€π€π€π€π€ π€π€π€π€π€ π€ββπ€π€π€π€ π€π€ π€π€π€ π€π€π€π€ π€π€π€ π€π€π€ π€π€π€ π€π€π€ π€
“And it was at the end of days, on the fourteenth of Nisan, that Kain brought of the produce of the earth, the seed of cotton (or line), an oblation of first things before the Lord;“
π€ π€π€π€ π€π€π€π€π€ π€π€ π€π€ π€ π€π€π€π€π€π€ π€π€π€ π€ π€π€βπ€π€π€π€π€ π€ π€ π€π€ π€ π€π€π€ π€ π€π€π€ π€π€π€ π€ π€ π€π€π€ π€π€π€π€ π€π€π€π€ π€ π€π€π€π€π€π€π€
“and Habel brought of the firstling of the flock, and of their fat; and it was pleasing before the Lord, and He gave (his) countenance to Habel and to his oblation;”
We see here that Adam’s children were taught π€π€ π€π€π€π€π€ (Law) before π€π€π€π€π€ “Abrihhem” (Abraham) and π€π€π€ “Mihsheh” (Moses) both stepped into the picture. Later on throughout Genesis in the Aramaic Targum of Pseudo-Jonathan you will see π€π€ “Nih-ch” (Noah), π€π€π€π€ “Ytzchihk” “eetz-chick” (Isaac), π€π€π€π€ Yayqb “ee-ay-qihb” (Jacob) and others also show signs that they understood π€π€ π€π€π€π€π€ “Au-ree-ee-ta” (Law) before π€π€π€ “Mihsheh” (Moses) wrote the commandments down.
